About the Role
Our client is seeking a vigilant and experienced Mine Safety Inspector to join their operations team in Pietermaritzburg . This critical role involves ensuring that all mining activities strictly adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards, safeguarding the well-being of all personnel and minimizing environmental impact. You will be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety consciousness throughout the mine site, conducting thorough inspections, and providing expert guidance on best practices.
This position is vital for maintaining compliance and operational integrity within the demanding mining sector, contributing directly to a secure and productive working environment for everyone involved.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of mine sites, equipment, and operational procedures in Pietermaritzburg .
- Identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and non-compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans to address identified safety risks and deficiencies.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventative measures.
- Deliver safety training programs and toolbox talks to mine workers and management on various safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, training, and safety-related incidents.
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer or Inspector within the mining industry.
- Deep understanding of South African mining safety legislation (e.g., MHSA) and international best practices.
- Relevant qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of mining processes, machinery, and potential workplace hazards.
- Excellent communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough site inspections and enforce safety compliance rigorously.
