Industrial Controls and Automation Technician

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the industrial sector, is seeking an experienced Industrial Controls and Automation Technician to join their team in
** Pietermaritzburg**. This critical role involves the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of automated control systems for manufacturing processes. You will work with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and other automation hardware and software to ensure efficient and reliable production. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial electronics, electrical systems, and a deep understanding of automation principles. Your expertise will be vital in maintaining and enhancing our automated manufacturing capabilities.

• Install, program, and maintain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
• Troubleshoot and repair issues with industrial automation systems, including robotics, servo drives, and sensors.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, control system diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Perform preventative maintenance on control systems to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to implement process improvements and upgrades.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company standards for industrial environments.
• Develop and update control system documentation, including program backups and operational manuals.
• Assist in the design and implementation of new automation solutions.
• Monitor system performance and make adjustments to optimize efficiency and output.
• Provide technical support to production personnel on automation-related issues.

• Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Industrial Controls Technician or Automation Specialist.
• Proven experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
• Familiarity with HMI software and graphical interface design.
• Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, and power distribution.
• Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and servo systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and control logic.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Willingness to work flexible hours as required by production demands.
• Technical degree or diploma in Industrial Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
