Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Industrial Energy Systems

Our client, a leading engineering firm providing solutions for industrial energy systems, is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Pietermaritzburg . This role is crucial for the design and development of electrical infrastructure for large-scale industrial and energy projects. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and control technologies relevant to the industrial sector in the Kwa Zulu-Natal region.

You will be responsible for leading design efforts, ensuring projects meet stringent technical specifications, safety standards, and client requirements. This is a significant opportunity to contribute to key industrial developments.

• Lead the electrical design of industrial power systems, including motor control centers, switch gear, and distribution networks.
• Develop single-line diagrams, panel layouts, wiring schematics, and load calculations.
• Specify electrical equipment and materials, preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African and international electrical codes and standards (e.g., SANS, NEC).
• Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, project managers, and construction teams.
• Conduct electrical system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, and protective device coordination studies.
• Perform site visits for inspections, verifications, and to provide technical support during construction.
• Review and approve electrical design documents submitted by contractors or other team members.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers and designers.
• Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in industrial electrical design.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in electrical design engineering, with a strong focus on industrial applications.
• Proven experience in designing electrical systems for manufacturing plants, substations, or similar industrial facilities.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, or similar design software.
• Strong understanding of power distribution, motor control, automation, and instrumentation.
• Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and associated design requirements is a plus.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple design tasks concurrently and meet project deadlines.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Pietermaritzburg , Kwa Zulu-Natal .
