Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Power Systems

Our client is a leading engineering consultancy seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their dynamic team in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa Zulu-Natal . This is a critical role focused on the design, development, and implementation of complex power systems for a variety of industrial and commercial projects. • Designing, developing, and implementing electrical power systems, including distribution networks, substations, and protection schemes.
• Conducting detailed load flow, short circuit, and stability studies using industry-standard software.
• Preparing comprehensive design documentation, including single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring layouts, and technical specifications.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless project integration.
• Performing site visits for system surveys, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant national and international standards and regulations.
• Reviewing and approving electrical drawings and documentation produced by junior engineers and external vendors.
• Managing project timelines and budgets for electrical components of projects.
• Providing technical support and expertise to site teams and clients.
• Leading and mentoring junior electrical engineers, fostering their professional development.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical design, with a focus on power systems engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA or eligibility for registration.
• Proficiency in electrical design software such as ETAP, PSS/E, Dig Silent Power Factory, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of power system analysis, protection coordination, and equipment specifications.
• Experience with HV/MV/LV distribution systems and substations.
• Strong understanding of relevant industry standards (e.g., SANS, IEC, IEEE).
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.
