Lead Mechanical Engineer - Industrial Machinery Design

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Lead Mechanical Engineer to join a renowned manufacturer of advanced industrial machinery in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa Zulu-Natal . This is a critical leadership position responsible for the overall mechanical design and engineering direction of our product portfolio. The successful candidate will guide a team of talented engineers, foster innovation, and ensure the delivery of robust, efficient, and high-performance machinery solutions for a diverse global clientele.

This role requires a hands-on approach, exceptional technical acumen, and strong leadership capabilities to drive complex projects from concept to completion in a dynamic manufacturing environment. The position is based entirely on-site to facilitate close collaboration with production and testing facilities.

• Lead the mechanical design and development of new industrial machinery, from initial concept to final product.
• Manage and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, providing technical direction and performance feedback.
• Oversee the creation of detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation using advanced CAD/CAE tools.
• Conduct and review advanced engineering analyses, including stress, thermal, vibration, and fluid dynamics simulations.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
• Drive the selection of appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and implement robust testing and validation procedures for all mechanical systems.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance product reliability, efficiency, and maintainability.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively for mechanical engineering deliverables.

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Over 10 years of comprehensive experience in mechanical engineering, with a significant portion dedicated to the design of complex industrial machinery.
• Proven experience in a leadership or team management role.
• Expertise in 3D CAD modeling and parametric design (e.g., Solid Works, Inventor, AutoCAD).
• Advanced proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software.
• Deep understanding of machine dynamics, kinematics, thermodynamics, and material properties.
• Demonstrated experience with various manufacturing techniques and quality control standards.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a rigorous, data-driven approach to engineering challenges.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment in Pietermaritzburg.
• Strong project management skills.
