A reputable client in the Pietermaritzburg area within the chemical manufacturing sector is seeking for a highly experienced Reactor Operator to join its production operations. This role is critical to ensuring safe, efficient and compliant reactor operations while maintaining product quality and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation, control and optimisation of chemical reactor systems, overseeing complex batch and/or continuous processes.
KeyResponsibilities:
- Operate and monitor chemical reactors according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Measure, mix and charge raw materials accurately into reactors
- Control temperature, pressure and reaction times to ensure product quality
- Conduct routine inspections and basic troubleshooting of reactor equipment
- Record production data, batch records, and log sheets accurately
- Adhere strictly to health, safety and environmental regulations
- Maintain good housekeeping and comply with GMP standards
- Work closely with supervisors, lab technicians, and maintenance teams.
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Recognised qualification in Chemical Operations, Process Technology, or Chemical Engineering (Operations-focused)
- Minimum 3years’ experience in chemical plant operations, with proven reactor operating experience
- Strong understanding of chemical reactions, process control and safety systems
- Experience working with hazardous chemicals and controlled environments
- Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment (GMP / ISO advantageous)
- Willingness to work shifts, standby, or overtime when required.
- In-depth understanding of reactor systems, utilities and instrumentation
- Strong problem-solving and analytical ability
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and hazard controls
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
