About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Social Worker to join their Child Protection Unit in Pietermaritzburg . This vital role involves safeguarding vulnerable children by investigating child abuse and neglect cases, providing support to children and families, and advocating for their best interests within the legal and social services systems. You will work collaboratively with various agencies, including law enforcement, schools, and health services, to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of child abuse, neglect, and risk factors.
  • Develop and implement intervention plans to ensure child safety and promote family well-being.
  • Provide crisis intervention, counseling, and support services to children and their families.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, courts, and other agencies to ensure effective case management and legal interventions.
  • Prepare detailed reports and case documentation for court proceedings and agency records.
  • Advocate for children's rights and access to necessary resources, including education and healthcare.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • Proven experience in child protection services or family support.
  • Strong understanding of child welfare legislation, policies, and procedures in South Africa .
  • Excellent assessment, crisis intervention, and case management skills.
  • Proficiency in report writing and court testimony.
