The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider. Responsibilities include managing check‑in and registration processes, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, drawing and collecting blood samples, preparing specimens for lab analysis, and preparing examination rooms.
Job Requirements Education- High School Diploma required
- Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
- Medical Assistant experience preferred
- Front Desk experience preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire, obtained through American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)
- Preferred certifications:
- CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (verified through NHA)
- CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (verified through AAMA)
- RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (verified through AMT)
- NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (verified through NCCT)
- NRCMA – Nationally Registered Medical Assistant (verified through NAHP)
- Additionally, CPOE certification for order entry is required within two weeks of the start date
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing or LPN or RN
- EMT – Emergency Medical Technician (verified through National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians)
- Conduct patient registration, secure required paperwork and insurance documentation, and verify insurance and patient eligibility.
- Process co‑pays and schedule patient appointments for assigned centers.
- Coordinate provider referrals to assigned specialists.
- Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status.
- Inform technical staff of patient flow.
- Prepare patients for examination, including interviews to verify patient information and medical history; confirm purpose of visit.
- Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalte critical cases to the provider as needed.
- Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG); provide patient information to providers.
- Maintain supplies and front‑desk reception area; ensure providers have necessary medical supplies.
- Maintain supply inventory levels; regularly check expiration dates on supplies.
- Maintain and scan medical records into patient files.
- Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence.
- Ensure reception area is well maintained.
- Conduct courtesy callbacks for patient follow‑up.
- Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end‑of‑day communication, and securing the building.
- Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain QA/QC logs for equipment troubleshooting, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Basic Medical Assistant duties
- Ability to type quickly and basic computer knowledge
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Detail‑oriented, able to rely on experience and judgment to perform a variety of tasks; participate on a team and accomplish goals.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Able to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect and sensitivity to cultural/social differences.
