Senior Accounting Specialist (Part Time, potential to become Full-Time)
Sol Levinson & Bros., one of the largest and most successful funeral homes in the Baltimore metropolitan area, is seeking a Senior Accounting Specialist. As an industry leader and influential member of the community for over 130 years, Sol Levinson is committed to providing the families we support with the best and most professional service possible. This is a part-time position with occasional holiday coverage, that has the potential to become full-time.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under the direction of management, the Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing accounting, financial, administrative, and general office functions for Sol Levinson & Bros., Inc. and its affiliated companies, including Eclipse Funerals and Levinson Monuments. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, trustworthy, and comfortable balancing accounting responsibilities with general administrative and customer-service duties in a professional and sensitive environment.
SPECIFICDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting & Financial Responsibilities
- Reconcile financial transactions between affiliated companies.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations.
- Prepare accounting and month-end closing entries.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and financial reports.
- Help with the review of account reconciliations for all entities.
- Review vendor accounts, contracts, and contract renewals.
- Gain an understanding of all banking systems and help maintain banking relationships and bank balances.
- Work closely with the Sol Levinson team to follow up on open items and documentation related to funeral arrangements to ensure the proper billing and vendor payments.
- Familiarize yourself with the funeral record database and monument tracking billing systems.
- Assist with resolving discrepancies and following up on outstanding financial items and queries.
- Support other departments with researching their questions and providing appropriate data.
- Assist with special accounting and administrative projects as assigned by management.
- Answer telephone calls and assist callers in a professional, courteous, and compassionate manner.
- Maintain familiarity with the company's computer systems, website, software programs, forms, and administrative processes.
- Crosstrain in other office functions and provide coverage as needed to support the overall operation of the office.
- Assist with maintaining accurate and complete business records and files.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by management.
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Previous accounting or bookkeeping experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and SharePoint.
- Experience with Google Docs and other Google Workspace applications is helpful.
- Familiarity with Quick Books Desktop and Quick Books Online.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds on occasion.
