Job Purpose
Under close supervision, responsible for making home visits, accompanying victims of domestic violence to court, advocating for victims; assisting victims in navigating system, sheltering, counseling, filing criminal charges and ex‑parte.
EssentialJob Duties
- Conduct home visits in conjunction with the police department
- Interview victims, gather and document information
- Assess client needs to determine counseling, sheltering, crisis intervention and develop safety plans for victims
- Assist in filing charges and ex‑parte orders
- Conduct community outreach and education
- Develop marketing materials and attend meetings within the agency and community
- Case consultation with agency staff
- Maintain logs and enter data into agency database
- Prepare and send correspondence
- Perform other related duties as assigned
AA degree in Human Services, Criminology, Sociology, or other related social science fields.
Preferred QualificationsAt least one year of experience with domestic violence population.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of crisis intervention, domestic violence, and the court systems
- Basic knowledge of interviewing techniques
- Ability to build working relationships with other agencies, government departments, and community organizations
- Writing and oral communication skills for completing application forms and reports
- Information gathering from clients and compiling into case records
- Understanding of Federal, State, and local regulations, program policies and procedures
- Record keeping and report preparation skills
- Computer proficiency for data entry and retrieval
Maid requires possession of a valid driver's license, equivalent to a non‑Commercial, Class C Maryland driver's license at the time of appointment.
Proof of Licenses, Certifications, and EducationApplicants must submit proof beyond high school, including diplomas or transcripts showing the major field of study.
Examination ProcedureApplicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience as stated in their application, including clear and complete dates and duties of past and present experience.
Physical and Environmental ConditionsWork involves frequent walking and standing, some lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight.
Medical Examination and Employment Background InvestigationSelected applicants must complete a physical examination, drug screening, and employment investigation, including criminal background, education certification, fingerprinting checks.
