About the Role:
The Lead Belt Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of conveyor belt systems within mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction environments. This position is responsible for leading a team of technicians to install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair conveyor belts and associated equipment to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. The Lead Belt Technician will collaborate closely with operations and safety teams to implement best practices and maintain compliance with industry standards.
This role demands a proactive approach to identifying potential issues and implementing preventative maintenance strategies to extend equipment lifespan. Ultimately, the Lead Belt Technician ensures that conveyor systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently to support continuous production goals across the site.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in mechanical or electrical maintenance is required.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience working with conveyor belt systems in mining, quarrying, or oil and gas extraction industries.
- Proven experience in leading or supervising maintenance teams in an industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of conveyor belt mechanics, electrical systems, and safety protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.
- Certification in conveyor belt maintenance or reliability engineering (e.g., CEMA certification).
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and inventory control software.
- First aid and CPR certification.
- Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of the belt technician team to ensure timely maintenance and repair of conveyor belt systems.
- Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostics to identify mechanical, electrical, or structural issues affecting conveyor belts.
- Perform installation, alignment, and adjustment of conveyor belts and related components according to manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to reduce equipment failures and unplanned downtime.
- Collaborate with safety officers to enforce compliance with workplace safety regulations and promote a culture of safety within the team.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory to support operational reporting and audits.
- Train and mentor junior technicians to enhance team skills and knowledge in conveyor belt technology and safety procedures.
