Position: Assistant Professor-1

Position Overview

University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff – Faculty – Tenure/Tenure Track, Academic Term (Fixed Term). 10‑month, full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction.

Institution Highlights

The 1890 Land‑Grant HBCU offers a 15:1 student‑to‑teacher ratio, a diverse student body, and a wide range of programs:
Certificate & Associate’s, more than thirty undergraduate degrees, Master’s programs, and a Doctorate in Aquaculture/Fisheries. The campus hosts over 90 student organizations, a Vesper Choir, marching & concert bands, debate, theater, and athletics, and extends into North Little Rock and online courses.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Prepare teacher candidates for P‑6 schools in specialist subject areas.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to coordinate and maintain a performance‑based assessment system, ensuring accreditation by the Arkansas Division of Elementary & Secondary Education and CAEP Standards.
  • Teach online, hybrid, and blended courses; facilitate faculty collaboration; and establish partnerships with school districts.
  • Teach core courses and courses in School Leadership, the Science of Reading, and special education as applicable.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in education or a related discipline (must be completed by appointment date – August 2023).
  • Three or more years of successful college teaching (preferred).
  • Minimum of three years of K‑12 teaching experience.
  • Certification or eligibility for elementary and/or special education certification.
  • Training to teach the Science of Reading and School Leadership courses.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into curriculum.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Experience with Praxis exams, program standards, and assessment of student performance.
  • Research experience focusing on educational issues and trends.
  • Leadership in education organizations and collaborative service to community partners.
  • Ability to perform additional duties as needed in the department, college, and university.
