Billing Coordinator Overview

- Enter patient charges for MoPath and miscellaneous labs.
- Handle customer service issues and follow up discrepancies in test orders as needed for laboratory clients (i.e., patients, physicians, physician offices, etc.).
- Monitor and review billing work queues as assigned, including obtaining correct diagnosis codes, following up on ABN issues, dates of service, and correct insurance information.
- Perform laboratory office functions and administrative support as directed, including answering phone calls, faxing reports, performing QA audits for orders, ordering office supplies, and department payroll.
- Register patient information for laboratory and pathology testing per physician orders, ensuring all required information for registration is complete and accurate (insurance information, diagnosis codes, request information).
- Answer telephones, route calls to appropriate departments, fax reports, and interact with customers in a respectful and courteous manner.
- Takes care to account for all specimens received in the laboratory to minimize errors.
- Register and receive specimens into the laboratory by requisitions, ensuring accurate specimen identification is maintained.
- Maintain inventory of laboratory office supplies and designated clinical supplies.
- Resolve entry-level laboratory billing issues (i.e., MoPath charges, requisition ABN).
- Ensure accurate information of clinics and providers that submit lab orders.
- Register outpatient lab orders as needed.
- High school diploma.
- 2 years' experience in patient billing, registration, or similar healthcare office setting.
- Medical terminology, typing, and computer skills required.
- Proficient at Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
