Overview
- Communicates effectively with a wide range of age groups, ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Displays effective organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize accurately and quickly. Demonstrates computer skills relevant to the service provided.
- Maintains clinical and professional competency levels required for age-specific populations, including all aspects of surgical technology in the perioperative care process.
- Surgical Technologists are not permitted to perform activities of a first assistant, which include independent tissue manipulation and/or handling, cutting, ligating, and/or dissecting tissue, providing hemostasis, and/or suturing.
Physical/working conditions:
- Able to access the entire facility: lift, transport patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Demonstrates manual dexterity, hearing acuity, and verbal ability.
- Displays ability for standing long periods of time, walking, lifting, bending, and stooping for much of the workday.
- Has efficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
- Exposure to blood/body fluids, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases.
- Participates in creating a safety culture by always optimizing safety.
- Able to deal with frustration and stress appropriately.
- Able to communicate effectively and professionally with other staff, physicians, and shift supervisors.
- Able to work weekends, holidays, and shift rotations as needed.
- Considered critical services during inclement weather and disasters.
- Available for call rotation as needed.
Education/formal training/licensure/certification experience:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technology *
- OR Graduate of a training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, or Air Force *
- Obtain an accredited surgical technologist certification credential during the 12-month period following the successful completion of a surgical technology program and maintain certification to retain employment as a surgical technologist.
- BCLS required.
