Overview Essential Functions
The 2A (Mother baby) RN is responsible for providing comprehensive care to new mothers and their babies, including monitoring maternal and newborn vital signs, administering medication and providing education on breastfeeding, infant care and maternal recovery. They also play a crucial role in identifying and addressing any complications that may arise during the postpartum period, while working closely with obstetricians and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that new mothers and their babies receive the best possible care.
QualificationsThe following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this position:
- Current unrestricted North Carolina RN license or RN multi-state licensure privilege through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school, AD degree in nursing, BSN
- One year of experience within a Women and Children’s Service line preferred.
- BLS (upon hire)
- ACLS (within 90 days of hire)
- NRP (within 60 days of hire)
- AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring – Basic (within 60 days of hire)
- S.T.A.B.L.E.
- Communicates effectively with a wide range of age groups, and ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Demonstrates knowledge of physical assessment skills.
- Displays effective organizational skills with the ability to prioritize with accuracy and speed. Illustrates efficient computer skills within the service line.
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving and demonstrates critical
- Maintains clinical and professional competency levels required of age-specific populations.
- Participates in creating a culture of safety by following policy, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines.
- Must be able to access the entire facility; lift and transport patients, and access and use supplies and equipment.
- Demonstrates manual dexterity, hearing acuity, and verbal acuity.
- Displays ability to stand for long periods of time, walking, lifting, bending, and stooping for much of the workday.
- Has sufficient endurance to perform work tasks over extended periods of
- Involves exposure to blood/body fluids, hazardous materials, and communicable
- Able to work weekends, holidays, and shift rotations as needed.
- Considered critical services during inclement weather and disasters.
- Available for call rotation as needed to meet the needs of the unit and patients.
