• Patrol facilities and property in a police car, on foot, by bicycle or other appropriate means; check doors and windows, examine premises of unoccupied buildings, detect unusual conditions and maintain surveillance and observation for stolen cars, missing persons, or suspects; report dangerous or defective streets, sidewalks, traffic signals, and other hazardous conditions.
• Perform fixed post functions at the Emergency Department/Hospital concourse, controlling patient and visitor entry, operating metal screening systems, and screening visitors and employees after hours for proper authorization and identification.
• Maintain a working knowledge of emergency codes and First Health Police response procedures; assist with mental health patient custody issues; escort patients to units; control disruptive patients.
• Respond to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, domestic disputes, loud and disruptive behavior; determine the true nature of the situation and take warranted legal or persuasive action.
• Investigate traffic accidents, illegal parking, issue traffic citations, direct traffic, and participate in other emergency operation activities.
• Perform investigations of accidents and possible crimes through observation, questioning witnesses, gathering physical evidence; arrest and process criminal suspects.
• Advise the public on laws and local ordinances; testify in court; execute search warrants; serve papers as needed.
• Regulate and direct vehicular traffic at busy times or when traffic signal malfunctions; maintain order at public gatherings; perform bank escorts.
• Operate a two‑way radio, a mobile data terminal, and other equipment; prepare detailed records and reports of activities; perform related duties as directed.

• Graduation from high school and completion of basic law‑enforcement training; experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Possession of a valid NC driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
• Certification by the North Carolina Justice Training and Standards Commission as a law‑enforcement officer or the ability to complete the NC BLET "Transfer" course.
• High level of computer literacy and technical competency, office automation skills; strong time‑management and organizational skills; ability to multi‑task and participate in multiple projects simultaneously; strong interpersonal and verbal skills including telephone skills and customer‑service focus; strong writing skills; self‑motivating.
