GeneralJob Description
This individual will create adult individual learning plans, assess and monitor student progress, and teach math, writing, reading, social studies, and science for GED preparation and refresher skills. The instructor will assist with student transition from Aspire classes and GED attainment into post‑secondary enrollment/employment opportunities. The workday is from 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Monday‑Thursday.
Responsibilities- Assess students according to Aspire policy and place each participant into the appropriate program level.
- Create and implement lesson plans.
- Maintain accurate student records and ensure data is current.
- Conduct intake procedures for new participants.
- Provide support services to adult learners and refer students requiring services outside the program to other agencies.
- Maintain knowledge of Aspire policies to provide accurate information to students.
- Promote the program and recruit students through networking with local schools and community groups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Education, Counseling, or Social Work preferred.
- Experience or knowledge of the Aspire program preferred.
- Experience working in a correctional setting preferred.
- Teaching experience with adult learners preferred.
- Experience teaching basic math, algebra, and geometry preferred.
- Must be available to work required hours as assigned.
- Meets Aspire program professional development requirements.
- Adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators and the Code of Conduct for Shelby County Jail support staff.
- Holds or can obtain a valid Ohio State Board of Education Adult Education Permit appropriate for the assignment.
- Meets all mandated health screening requirements.
- Maintains a criminal‑violation free record and passes a BCI/FBI background check.
- Complies with drug‑free workplace rules, board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.
Compensation is $25.00 per hour, on an as-needed basis. Maximum 839 working hours in an academic year. One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.
Other BenefitsState Teachers Retirement System and Worker’s Compensation are provided. Additional benefits may be offered upon hire depending on hours worked, classification, and placement on the Upper Valley Career Center salary schedule. Some benefits have a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.
Performance EvaluationJob performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by Upper Valley Career Center.
