CAD Drafter – Hartzell Propeller

What You’ll Do

Hartzell Propeller LLC seeks a CAD Drafter to support the Engineering Department in creating new, and making changes to, 3D models and 2D drawings. The drafter assists in managing the changes to engineering records through the review and checking workflow processes. The position is on‑site in an office environment with 3D capable workstations and stand/sit desks.

The drafter will work adjacent to Engineers for multiple product lines and in close proximity to Quality Technicians, Machinists and Programmers. The drafter is expected to attend weekly team meetings and monthly one‑on‑one meetings with the manager.

Key Deliverables Include
  • Generate 3D models and 2D dimensional drawings for components or assemblies based on measurements, sketches, or redlined 2D drawings using Solid Works, AutoCAD, or Raster Design.
  • Create/modify 3D models that accurately represent parts with geometric dimensional data, tolerances, datums, and material properties.
  • Create/modify 2D drawing details such as BOM, revision blocks, notes, charts, line styles, drawing layers, part orientations, views, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Process change orders to release/modify designs using PLM software, prioritizing tasks by project and tracking time.
  • 3D print engineering models using in‑house filament printers for development, testing, and fit‑up.
First Year Success Factors
  • Proficient with current engineering change management processes in our PLM system.
  • Competent in drafting standards and modeling best practices with minimal mentor input.
  • Familiar with product lines, drafting standards, and able to check models and drawings completed by other drafters.
  • Able to create propeller assembly models with over 500 actuating components.
  • Able to use a 3D printer independently and perform minor maintenance.
Required Education And Experience

High school diploma or GED and a technical degree in Drafting and Design Technology, college‑prep mechanical engineering coursework, or equivalent work experience.

Required Technical Competencies
  • Experience with 2D & 3D CAD software, including Solid Works 2025 Mechanical and AutoCAD 2014 or later.
  • Experience with ASME Y14.5 and Global Engineering Standards.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience with hard gauging tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in mathematics, geometry and trigonometry.
Preferred
  • Solid Works Certification CSWA or CSWP.
  • Experience with aviation‑related products.
  • Experience working in an Engineering/Manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of mechanical structures and manufacturing processes.
