- Permanent position for a Fiber Optics Research Scientist for R&D on the transmission performance of specialty optical fiber and fiber-based devices.
- Design, build and run transmission test systems to characterize fiber products, including amplifier fibers and next-generation transmission fibers.
- Conduct research in high-speed data transmission, fiber amplification and distributed fiber sensing.
- Provide design input to the fiber fabrication team to drive improved fiber designs.
- Collaborate with component development teams on fiber sensors, telecom devices and optical amplifiers.
- Help define and execute an R&D program supporting multiple manufacturing sites, including a long-term technology roadmap.
- Contribute to new product development, with a path to leading development programs.
- Provide applications engineering support to sales, marketing and customers, including demonstrations of improved fiber products.
- Publish, present at technical conferences and generate patentable IP.
- MS or PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on lab experience with optical fibers and optical components.
- Experience with transmission testing preferred.
- Strong background in waveguide photonics, optical fiber amplifiers, transmission theory and system architecture.
- Experience performing optical modeling and simulation.
- Experience automating lab test setups.
- Working proficiency with AI tools in a research workflow.
- Track record of technical publications or conference presentations.
- Experience with distributed fiber sensing a plus.
