Assistant​/Associate Engineer

The City of Pittsburg seeks an Assistant/Associate Engineer for the Engineering Division in the Public Works Department. The Public Works Department, Engineering Division consists of three separate sections, Capital Improvement, Transportation, and Land Development/Stormwater-NPDES Program, with a total of nineteen (19) staff spanning various roles. The Assistant Engineer performs tasks and duties assigned within the professional engineering series such as design, construction, land development, transportation and stormwater.

Assistant Engineers’ duties and activities could include engineering plan review for single family home projects and development projects, review and facilitate development projects through the entitlement process, and manage capital projects through design and construction.

The Associate Engineer is the journey level class in the professional engineering series. Incumbents have good working knowledge of various aspects of civil engineering including land development, planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a wide variety of civil engineering projects. Associate Engineers assist Senior Civil Engineers on large and complex construction projects and may serve as a resident engineer on medium to larger sized projects.

• Excellent verbal and writing skills to communicate to internal and external parties
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to interact with staff and the public (including complaint resolutions)
• Knowledgeable of civil engineering principles and practices
• Experience and knowledge of Land Development and/or Subdivision May Act is a plus
• Ability to read construction plans and drawings
• Great attention to detail to prepare accurate plans, reports, and computations
• Relevant computer skills to utilize various applications and knowledgeable of computer aided drafting and design such as AutoCAD and ArcGIS

The Engineering Division ensures City owned facilities such as streets, storm drain systems, water distribution networks, sewer collection facilities and improvements are constructed where needed and meeting appropriate standards. Staff assures CIP and development projects meet all City requirements, manage traffic related projects such as signal modifications, striping and sign improvements, process and issue encroachment permits, site grading, parking permits, wide‑load permits, and maintain all necessary records.
