Infection Preventionist Specialist

The Infection Preventionist Specialist is responsible for leading infection prevention efforts across Berkshire Health Systems. This includes conducting surveillance, supporting educational initiatives, consulting with stakeholders on infection control matters, and assisting in the development and implementation of infection prevention plans and education. The role also manages all infection-related data, overseeing its collection, analysis, storage, and reporting for both internal use and external compliance.

Job Requirements
  • Four years of experience in a healthcare setting is required.
  • Two years in an Infection Preventionist role in acute care is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, science or health-related field preferred.
  • INFECT - Certification in Infection Control (a-IPC – Associate
    -Infection Prevention and control or CIC – Certification Infection Control) required within 2 years.
Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in computer applications including Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, MIDAS, Meditech, and NHSN Healthcare/Patient Safety Modules, with experience creating reports, presentations, graphs, and tables.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable policies, procedures, Joint Commission standards, and regulatory or payor documentation requirements.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work independently and maintain flexibility.
  • Familiarity with statistics, epidemiology, infectious diseases, asepsis, and healthcare data analysis, including tracking, trending, and reporting.
  • Experience participating in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Understanding of nursing and medical practices, and relevant federal, state, and local hospital laws and regulations is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and consultation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly in English verbally and in writing.
