Overview
Welder/Fabricator is responsible for performing a variety of welding involving fabrication, alteration, and repairs of metal parts.
Responsibilities- Weld and fabricate metal components per drawings/prints and work orders
- Layout fits and welds components for assembly based on pre-designed specifications
- Grind off excess weld, slag or splatter using hand scraper, power chipper or portable grinder
- Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions
- Ensure sound welds and accuracy of assembly
- Observe and identify faults in equipment, material and assembly process, and notify supervisors
- Control the processes of fitting, burning and welding to avoid overheating or distortion of parts
- Clamp, hold, tack weld, heat bend, bolt or grind parts as necessary to satisfy technical requirements
- Request parts and equipment as necessary
- Liaise with supervisor on problems to achieve efficient repair
- Maintain a clean and tidy work area
- Complete all documentation including inspection sheets, certificates, and receipts as appropriate
- Identify abnormalities and repairs required and advise supervisor accordingly
- Identify areas for process improvement, cost and waste reduction
- Work efficiently and within deadlines; carry out relevant training and development as required
- Carry out work orders within a realistic timeline and meet deadlines
- Maintain cooperative working relationships and respect for a diverse population
- Record all hours worked accurately
- Other duties as assigned
- Experience with welding equipment
- Experience with MIG and TIG welding
- Mechanical aptitude
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience
- AWS Certified
- Crane Certified
- Valid Driver's License
- Adhere to and carry out existing work practices, procedures and policies
- Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines where appropriate
- Understand and comply with safety and environmental policies
- Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision
- Excellent listening skills
- Take and understand measurements
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to maintain focus and work efficiently under pressure
- Mathematical skills (add, subtract, divide, multiply and knowledge of angles)
- Reading abilities required (including blueprint details)
- Ability to write legibly
- Follow safety and materials policies and procedures
- Attention to detail
- Ability to interact with Stock room and multiple internal departments; may interact with customers occasionally
- Welding helmet
- Hand held plasma tool
- Band & chop saws
- Drill & punch press
- Pipe bender
- See list of required tools
Must be able to pass physical exam. Ability to lift a minimum of 70 lbs. Ability to bend, reach and climb into, onto and under vehicles. Extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting and kneeling. Vision 20/40 with or without corrective lenses. Good hearing.
