Position SummaryWe are seeking a hands‑on Automation Engineer to support and continuously improve a fully automated manufacturing facility. This role reports to the Equipment Manager and works closely with maintenance technicians to ensure high equipment availability, rapid troubleshooting, and stable automation system performance.
The Automation Engineer will take ownership of PLC‑based control systems, lead automation troubleshooting and upgrades, support new equipment commissioning, and establish clear operating and maintenance standards for automated production lines.
Core Technical Responsibilities- PLC / HMI / Automation System Programming & Integration
- Design, program, modify, and debug PLC control logic (Allen‑Bradley and/or Siemens).
- Configure and maintain HMI / SCADA systems, including parameter updates and interface optimization.
- Integrate PLCs with sensors, actuators, robotics, and other automation components.
- Support commissioning and validation of new automated equipment and production lines.
- Automation Troubleshooting & Preventive Maintenance
- Act as the primary technical expert for automation‑related failures in a fully automated factory.
- Quickly diagnose root causes of system downtime (PLC logic, electrical, mechanical, communication, or sensor‑related).
- Guide maintenance technicians during troubleshooting and repair activities.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance strategies for automation systems to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and troubleshooting guidelines.
- Automation Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Lead or support automation projects focused on efficiency improvement, cost reduction, and product quality enhancement.
- Support equipment upgrades, control system updates, and process optimization initiatives.
- Collaborate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to implement lean manufacturing solutions through automation.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, change records, and system validation files.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3+ years of hands‑on automation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience with automated production equipment and industrial control systems.
- Strong PLC troubleshooting and debugging capability in live production environments.
- Solid understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in automated machinery.
- Experience supporting equipment commissioning, upgrades, and system modifications.
- Ability to independently handle automation issues while coordinating with maintenance teams.
- On‑site role at a fully automated manufacturing facility in Pittston, PA.
- Direct reporting line to the Equipment Manager.
- Hands‑on engagement with automated production lines and control systems.
