Job SummaryThe Packaging Operator is responsible for operating labeling equipment, case packing equipment, and any equipment used to load finished beverages into cartons or trays for shipping. This role ensures proper product orientation, packaging integrity, and accurate palletizing while adhering to safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate has solid mechanical skills, a focus on efficiency, and prior experience in a fast‑paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate case packing and labeling machines according to production specs.
- Monitor packaging/labeling for alignment, count accuracy, and sealing quality.
- Perform changeovers for different product formats and sizes.
- Load labels, cartons, trays, or packaging supplies as needed during runs.
- Check for damaged, misaligned, or missing product in packs.
- Maintain visual quality standards and report any deviations.
- Ensure all packed products meet labeling and lot code requirements.
- Accurately document packaging counts and line checks.
- Minimize downtime through efficient machine operation and material handling.
- Clear jams and assist maintenance in resolving mechanical issues.
- Collaborate with upstream/downstream operators for consistent line flow.
- Support sanitation and minor equipment maintenance as needed.
- Adhere to all plant safety rules and food handling standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, food safety, and quality standards, including GMPs, PPE requirements, and hazard reporting.
- Perform all other duties or tasks as assigned by management to support departmental or company objectives.
- Packaging Accuracy:
Correct number and orientation of products per case. - Label Integrity and clarity.
- Line Efficiency:
Cases packed per hour versus target. - Downtime Reduction:
Minimal unplanned equipment interruptions. - Defect Rate:
Incidents of incorrect or damaged packaging. - Safety Compliance:
Zero incidents and complete adherence to safety protocols. - Documentation Accuracy:
Completeness and correctness of case records.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1–2 years experience of packaging or machine operation experience preferred.
- Mechanically inclined with good hand‑eye coordination.
- Ability to read production schedules and operate touchscreens or control panels.
- Basic math, computer, and documentation skills.
- Attention to detail and safety‑conscious work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in cold, hot, or fast‑paced production and warehouse environments.
