Position Summary:

Collects blood specimens from patients of all ages of diverse population from newborn to geriatric population using appropriate vein‑puncture and skin puncture techniques. Accesses requests and processes specimens for testing or referral to outside reference laboratories. Provides clerical, billing, reception, and other support functions for all laboratory sections. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to Laboratory Manager/Director.

Required Qualifications:

• Possesses knowledge and skill necessary to safely and professionally collect venous and capillary blood specimens from patients of all age groups.
• Provides accurate timely processing of clinical specimens, preferably in multiple laboratory disciplines.
• Good judgment and problem solving abilities.
• Good communication skills in English, a knowledge of basic medical terminology and ability to follow technical direction.
• California Phlebotomy License.
• BLS certification.
• Hospital Mandatory
  
  Education Requirements:
  
  Orientation, Environment of Care, OSHA, Infection Control, Abuse/ Neglect, and Ethics, Tuberculosis Screening, Licensure Renewal.
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year previous laboratory experience in a hospital environment preferred.
• Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
