Romeoviile Before & After School Care Counselor

As a counselor in our Before and After School Care program, you'll lead engaging activities, maintain a safe environment, and foster meaningful relationships with learners aged 5-12. Position

Summary

Responsible for safety and security of all children under your supervision. Provide leadership for before and after school programs, encouraging daily enrichment activities such as field trips, character development, arts & crafts, swimming, nature walks, outdoor/indoor games, and general recreation. Ensure children are supervised and safe at all times, follow YMCA policies and procedures. Provide a quality experience focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility.

Shift Available: 6:45 am – 9:00 am, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Essential Functions
  • Assume responsibility for safety and well‑being of all program participants, reporting any issues to the Director.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention, and emergency protocols.
  • Help plan, implement, and supervise group activities according to the program’s goals.
  • Provide high‑level customer service while interacting with school personnel, YMCA members, guests, and staff.
  • Develop positive relationships with participants and parents.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and storage areas.
  • Actively participate in all curriculum activities.
  • Assist with daily set‑up and clean‑up of activity areas, crafts, and snacks.
  • Respect school policies and shared space guidelines.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings.
  • Serve as a positive role model for parents, staff, and children.
  • Verify authorized pick‑up by checking photo .
  • Clean/disinfect high‑touch areas regularly.
  • Accept additional duties as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in a childcare setting.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training required before employment.
  • Experience with diverse populations preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities in outdoor/indoor settings.
