About

Reception Diagnostic Center

The Reception Diagnostic Center (RDC), part of the Indiana Department of Correction, promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re‑entry. It is a maximum security intake facility for adult males located in Plainfield, Indiana. All adult male incarcerated individuals are received, classified, and transferred to long‑term facilities. During intake, they are seen by multiple divisions throughout the Department of Correction for assessments—physical and emotional health, addiction recovery services, educational and work opportunities, and other needs, which help determine which state facility best meets their needs.

Role Overview

As a Clerical Assistant, you will monitor the status of deadlines and ensure all incarcerated individuals' packets are accurate and in compliance with facility and agency policies. Additionally, this position provides accurate records/information in a timely manner, contributing to the smooth operation of the facility.

Salary Statement

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $27,638.00, but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day In The Life
  • Supports the daily operations of an organization by performing general office tasks
  • Greets visitors and directs them to the appropriate person according to their needs
  • Answers telephones and gives information to callers, takes messages, or transfers calls to appropriate individuals
  • Opens, sorts, and routes incoming mail and correspondence, and prepares outgoing mail
  • Operates office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems, and personal computers
  • Accurately maintains and organizes office files
  • Delivers messages and runs errands
  • Maintains inventory, orders, and distributes supplies
  • Completes tasks or projects assigned by supervisor in a timely manner

What You'll Need For Success

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have a

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Upon entering the role, individuals must have or obtain the following requirements:

  • Working knowledge of general office functions and clerical procedures
  • Basic computer skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to work with sensitive documents and information, and be privy to sensitive agency information without divulging information to internal or external parties
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to provide effective and professional customer service to internal and external parties
  • Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
