Cutting Operator

Description

Responsible for cutting the material used for the top of the box springs, the bottom of the mattresses, and the mid-layer of the pillow top mattresses. This position requires extremely accurate measuring skills as well as arm and shoulder strength. The operator places multiple layers of material on a table (20-30 layers) and traces the pattern on the cloth. The cloth is then cut using a motorized saw/knife.

The layers are then lifted, stored on wheeled carts and wheeled to the appropriate department in a timely manner according to the manufacturing schedule.

Pay Rate: $21.75

• Continuous walking while rolling out fabric, marking patterns, cutting units, and moving them to storage.
• Frequent pushing and pulling roll out sled and knife.
• Occasional bending over to place and retrieve items from under the tables.
• Occasional crawling while cutting center portion of fabric.
• Occasional climbing onto the table to cut fabric and store/retrieve electrical cord for knife.
• Occasional reaching overhead to guide rolls on host, move roll out sled, and store/retrieve cord for knife.
• Occasional kneeling while cutting center of fabric and store/retrieve items from under table.
• Occasional repetitive use of arms and hands while cutting fabric with knife and while marking layout.
• Occasional grasping of knife, yard stick, marking pin and other items during layout and cutting.
• Occasional lifting and carrying of work in process and smaller fabric rolls weighing up to 50 pounds.
