A Growing Performance Racecar Manufacturer|Direct Hire
Plainfield, IN (onsite)
About the OpportunityOur client designs and builds high-performance racecars, and every part that goes into a vehicle has to perform flawlessly under real racing conditions. As the company grows, leadership is investing in a dedicated Quality Control Technician to help build out a quality function from the ground up — something that has historically lived informally within individual production departments. This is a true foundational hire: you won’t be inheriting a rigid, mature quality system, but you will have the chance to help shape practical, flexible processes that fit a fast-moving, prototype-driven environment.
This role is intentionally hands‑on and floor‑based rather than a desk‑bound engineering or management position. You’ll spend your time inspecting real parts, catching issues before they reach vehicle assembly, and partnering with the purchasing and production teams — all while having real input into how the quality program takes shape over time.
What You’ll Do- Perform incoming, in-process, first‑piece, final, and outgoing inspections of sourced and fabricated parts.
- Verify that parts meet engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and inspection plans.
- Identify, segregate, and document nonconforming materials and elevate quality concerns promptly and confidently.
- Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records.
- Partner closely with the Buyer/Planner, suppliers, and production teams to support compliance across departments.
- Assist with root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Help build and refine practical inspection procedures and standardized work instructions as the quality function develops.
- Support internal audits and help lay the groundwork for formal quality processes, including ISO‑related practices.
- Approximately 3–5 years of experience in quality inspection or manufacturing, ideally beyond entry‑level visual inspection.
- Confident, hands‑on ability to read a print and properly use a micrometer — this is a practical must‑have for the role.
- Experience with inbound/incoming inspection and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Exposure to audits (ISO‑related experience is a plus, but not required).
- Working knowledge of quality terminology, nonconformance reporting, and process compliance.
- A background in aerospace, medical device, food manufacturing, or another manufacturing environment with meaningful safety or quality standards is attractive — automotive or racing experience is not required.
- Confidence to speak up and hold your ground when a part or process isn’t right.
- Direct, visible impact: the parts you inspect — from throttle components to brake systems — directly affect vehicle reliability and driver safety on race day.
- Ground‑floor ownership: help build a quality program from scratch rather than inherit someone else’s rigid system.
- Cross‑functional exposure: work closely with engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and production in a close‑knit, collaborative environment.
- Room to grow: as the quality function matures, there’s real opportunity to grow your role and influence alongside it.
- A fast‑paced, prototype‑driven culture built around a shared passion for performance and precision — no two days look exactly the same.
