Assistant Financial Aid Office-PRN

Hackensack Meridian Health – JFK Muhlenberg & Snyder Schools, Plainfield, New Jersey

Description

The JFK Muhlenberg Harold B. & Dorothy A. Snyder Schools, an entity of Hackensack Meridian Health, offer accredited programs in nursing and medical imaging. As part of a larger healthcare system, the schools provide a supportive learning environment with expert faculty and resources. Students in the nursing, radiography, and diagnostic medical sonography programs can earn an associate in science degree in addition to a diploma.

The School of Nursing offers multiple tracks, while the Medical Imaging program prepares students for board exams through comprehensive coursework and clinical rotations.

Counselor responsibilities include integrated student services for JFK SONMI students, families, and staff in Enrollment Services. The role requires deep knowledge of institutional, federal, and state financial‑aid policies, academic records, registration, and student‑account billing. Counselors provide outstanding customer service, exhibit strong problem‑solving skills, and manage sensitive financial conversations. They may serve on committees, pursue professional development, and engage in campus and community outreach.

Responsibilities
  • Counseling, Advising, and Processing (90%)
    • Counsel, advise, investigate, problem‑solve and resolve questions from students, parents, staff, academic departments, third parties, and the public.
    • Provide advising on FAFSA applications, verification, eligibility, disbursement, cost‑of‑attendance figures, aid types, and family contribution estimates.
    • Counsel students on financial aid, billing, and payments.
    • Advise on Pell, federal work‑study, loans, and NJ State TAG awards.
    • Explain the availability, types, and processing procedures of student aid.
    • Package students according to federal, institutional, and state guidelines and ensure award letters are generated, reviewed, and processed timely.
    • Verify federally and institutionally selected students; collect, review, and correct financial information and forms.
    • Resolve federal C‑flags for citizenship, alien status, loan default, UEH, etc.
    • Resolve discrepancies in submitted aid information with parents and students.
    • Review academic progress and monitor changes affecting federal/state aid eligibility each semester.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Community Outreach & Other Duties (10%)
    • Present orientation and related presentations to students, parents, and JFK SONMI staff.
    • Attend Admitted Student Days, Open Houses, Admission events, and Transfer Student Orientations as needed.
    • Serve on committees as required.
    • Events may include evenings and weekends.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree with at least two years of proven financial aid experience.
  • Five years of proven experience in financial aid can substitute for a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; skills in clear, concise letter writing.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity; ability to interact with people of all ages and identities.
  • Strong team‑working ability.
  • Capability to analyze data and make independent decisions.
  • Highly motivated, focused, and results‑oriented.
  • Ability to meet expectations in a fast‑paced, customer‑oriented environment.
  • Effective presenter; credential to represent the school at outreach events (evenings, weekends, travel).
  • Student financial aid experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of People Soft Campus and related institutional policies.
  • Demonstrated project management and public‑speaking skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite, student records, financial aid software (People Soft, COD, HESAA, ELM, FPP, NSLDS, EdConnect).
Compensation & Benefits

Minimum hourly rate: $22.77. Compensation is based on market data, experience, education, and other factors. Job types include full‑time and part‑time (20+ hours per week). Benefits include health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement plans.

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted rate reflects a reasonable estimate of the minimum base pay as required by the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act but may vary upon offer.
