Mathematics Teacher (Grades 7-12)

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the successful candidate will develop students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in the solution of practical problems.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer a mathematics curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Promote a safe and conducive classroom environment that encourages individualized and small‑group instruction.
  • Plan lesson sequences, create instructional materials, and design learning experiences that challenge students and make effective use of instructional time.
  • Teach mathematics concepts such as real and imaginary numbers, formulas, calculations, geometry, and foster creative thinking and analysis.
  • Design activities that demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday problems.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instruction to meet individual needs, including students with special needs; provide individual and small‑group instruction as required.
  • Stay familiar with district and Connecticut State standardized tests, adjusting curriculum to maximize student achievement.
  • Continue professional development through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records for grading, reporting, student activities, achievement, and attendance per district procedures and applicable law.
  • Encourage parental involvement and communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with other staff, especially within the grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Procure appropriate instructional materials, books, aids, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and district administrators, as directed by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of mathematics subject areas including arithmetic, calculus, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
  • Proficiency in computer network systems and related software applications.
  • Organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication with students and parents.
  • Self‑evaluation for performance and professional growth.
  • Cooperative working relationships with others involved in teaching activities.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Qualifications Profile
  • Certification/License:
    State Certification as a Mathematics Education Teacher (#029 or #229 as appropriate).
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or equivalent transportation arrangement.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching.
  • Master's degree preferred.
Experience

Preferable prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade level.
