Position OverviewThis part-time position provides support for quality assurance, quality control, and safety activities for construction on the project during both day and night shifts with occasional schedule changes or extended hours. The field quality inspector will perform field inspections to verify that construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, inspection and test plans, and other applicable project requirements. This role works in an active outdoor construction environment and will coordinate with HICS project management, construction personnel, contractors, and other project representatives.
EssentialJob Functions
- Inspect duct-bank construction activities, including excavation, conduit installation, concrete encasement, backfill, splice-vault installation, grounding, utility crossings, restoration, and conduit proving.
- Complete required quality inspection forms, daily field reports, checklists, and other project documentation accurately and promptly in project management system.
- Document inspections with clear photographs.
- Provide field safety oversight of subcontractor operations, verify compliance with the Project Health and Safety Plan, job hazard analyses, PPE requirements, and applicable safety regulations, and immediately address and report unsafe conditions or work practices.
- Confirm that current approved drawings, specifications, and procedures are available and being followed in the field.
- Track installed quantities, contractor labor, equipment, and daily construction progress as assigned.
- Identify and promptly communicate work that does not meet project requirements.
- Verify that reported corrective work has been completed before an item is closed.
- Immediately notify project management of significant quality concerns or work proceeding beyond a required inspection point without authorization.

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have strong organizational skills, be highly accurate, detail-oriented and have the ability to maintain complete & accurate field records.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of employees and the ability to prioritize.
- Three or more years of construction, contractor, utility, civil, or field-inspection experience preferred.
- Experience with underground utility, duct-bank, excavation, concrete, or electrical infrastructure construction preferred.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, inspection forms, and project procedures.
- Experience using tablets, smartphones, email and Procore, or similar electronic documentation systems.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation required.
- This role is primarily outdoors in a construction environment with exposure to varied weather conditions, noise, dust, traffic and uneven terrain.
- Alternating between walking and standing.
- Must have the ability to safely access excavation, duct-bank, and splice-vault work areas.
- Must have the ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to travel between multiple active work locations within the project area.
- Frequent tablet, cell, computer, mouse, and keyboard use.
- Hearing, talking, reaching, grasping.
Salary Range: $30 – $55 per hour dependent upon experience.
