POSITION SUMMARY

The Practicum Student/Extern will function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and will contribute the counseling, evaluation, and related skills acquired through the training and/or experience required for this position. The Practicum Student/Extern may provide services within one or more programs, and the relative concentration between and within programs may change with the needs of the clinic. The Practicum Student/Extern will be under the supervision of a licensed clinician or licensed program manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate needs to be enrolled currently in a doctoral program of clinical or counseling psychology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicates in a positive, inclusive, and affirming manner with clients, families, and all internal and external providers. Attends any required meetings.
  • Documents all client-related information in compliance with agency policy.
  • Provides direct services according to specific program parameters and expectations under supervision.
  • Attends and is prepared for scheduled supervision. Seeks additional supervision or consultation as needed and follows through with supervisory directives.
  • Observes service in the office and/or community settings outside of the office (e.g., schools, hospitals, institutions, other community locations) as defined by the program.
  • Develops and maintains holistic knowledge of populations being served including cultural, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender, and ability differences.
  • Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
