This is a 6 Month Contract-to-hire position that can go full time at any point within the 6 months.
Position Summary
The Engineering Technician I/II plays a vital role in supporting the R&D Engineering team by performing testing, failure analysis, and continuous improvement efforts on company products. As a key contributor to product remediation and enhancement projects, this role also ensures proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the R&D Sustaining team in product improvements and engineering support activities.
- Perform and document verification and validation testing for design changes, software updates, and other required evaluations.
- Conduct testing and implementation of change orders and product updates.
- Build and maintain test fixtures as required by engineering protocols.
- Organize and maintain the lab space in accordance with 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
- Ensure punctual and regular attendance and compliance with company policies.
- Support additional tasks or projects as assigned.
In addition to the responsibilities of the Technician I role, the Technician II will also:
- Maintain engineering devices, tools, and components in optimal working condition.
- Offer design-for-manufacturability feedback during product lifecycle and improvement phases.
- Manage lab inventory including test devices, subcomponents, fittings, tubing, and tools—ensuring all supplies are labeled and organized per 5S principles.
- Investigate and analyze field failures, documenting root causes and reporting findings to the engineering team.
- Write and execute test protocols in compliance with Clients SOPs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
General Skills (for both levels)
- Strong work ethic with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), planning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Experience with mechanical/electrical test equipment and fabrication tools.
- Skilled in soldering (surface mount and through-hole), including under magnification.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 / ISO 13485 quality systems.
- Knowledge of lean principles and 5S methodology.
- Background in medical device testing and FDA-regulated environments preferred.
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in Engineering, a Scientific field, or related technical discipline required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of medical device testing experience required.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
