About the Role:
We are seeking a hands-on, entry- to mid-level R&D Product Engineer with a combination of mechanical and electrical knowledge to support product development, equipment configuration, and production readiness. Preference will be given to candidates with an electrical engineering or hands-on electrical wiring background.
This is a hands-on role with regular time spent in the shop and test lab working directly with prototype equipment. You will help assemble and modify prototypes, support wiring and component installation, inspect mechanical fit and electrical connections, troubleshoot issues, and perform testing under appropriate guidance. You will use schematics, mechanical drawings, and test results to help R&D Engineering improve designs and verify readiness for handoff to Order Engineering.
You will work closely with R&D Engineering, Product Management, Production, and Quality on standard and custom low-voltage and medium-voltage products. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers, with increasing responsibility as your skills develop.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support electrical and mechanical design and configuration of power distribution equipment.
- Assist with component selection, equipment layouts, schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
- Review wiring, circuit protection, grounding and bonding, component placement, electrical clearances, and service access under engineering guidance.
- Maintain standard drawing libraries, wiring details, and repeatable design packages.
- Learn and use Solid Works PDM and ERP tools to maintain drawing revisions, released files, and alignment between drawings and bills of materials.
- Participate in R&D design reviews and work with R&D Engineering to document prototype findings and incorporate approved design changes into the development package.
- Work directly on prototype equipment using appropriate hand tools and electrical test instruments to support assembly, wiring, component installation, inspection, modifications, and troubleshooting.
- Help prepare test setups and equipment, carry out assigned functional and validation tests under appropriate guidance, record results, and support troubleshooting and retesting.
- Travel to Phoenix facilities and external test laboratories to support builds, test preparation, testing, troubleshooting, and product validation.
- Resolve prototype design and assembly issues with R&D Engineering, Production, and Quality.
- Maintain engineering revisions and prepare documentation for production release and handoff to Order Engineering.
- Develop working knowledge of applicable UL, NEC, NEMA, ANSI/IEEE, and customer requirements.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent relevant technical training and hands-on experience will also be considered.
- Foundational knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems, with a stronger electrical background preferred.
- Understanding of three-phase power, control circuits, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Hands-on familiarity with wiring, electrical components, basic hand tools, and test instruments gained through work, technical training, internships, labs, or personal projects.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Solid Works, or similar design software.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Willingness to learn across electrical design, mechanical layouts, assembly, and testing.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures and travel up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Practical experience assembling, wiring, modifying, or troubleshooting…
