Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer
We’re looking for a Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer with strong technical skills in system configuration, product installations, upgrades, and hardware refresh initiatives to help maintain and optimize our mainframe environment as part of a collaborative and fast-moving team.
Base pay range$65.00/hr - $75.00/hr
Job Responsibilities- Perform standard system programming activities, including configuration, installation & maintenance using SMP/E, and vendor software installations in the mainframe environment.
- Perform Operating System upgrade and RSU maintenance via z/OSMF Workflow.
- Architect, install, and configure highly complex z/OS environments and third‑party software.
- Support Software Standardization and new Feature implementations.
- Support other team: storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking, and operating procedures from zOS perspective.
- Work with the Mainframe System Programmers staff across tracks to enhance the mainframe environment.
- Assist team members in solving problems, make innovative improvements, and make decisions.
- Identify and implement system and process improvements in the z/OS environment. Work with application support teams and other internal customers to facilitate business initiatives.
12+ years of professional work experience as a Mainframe System Programmer in zOS & ISVs.
Technical Key Skills (Mandatory)- Expertise in performing SMP/E and Non‑SMPE Installation of ISV products.
- Expertise in IBM and Broadcom Software product installation and Upgrades.
- Mastery of z/OS system commands, utilities, and automation tools.
- Operating system z/OS V2.5 upgrades or later with z/OSMF workflow execution.
- IODF, HCD Skillset to add new devices.
- Sysplex and config management (good to have).
- Fluent in JCL and IBM Utilities (IEBGENER/IEBCOPY/AMASPZAP/DFDSS).
- ISPF/TSO and other basics.
- Basic knowledge of REXX/CLIST.
- Design a project plan (upgrades, maintenance, decom) with a task list for all stakeholders and communicating the timelines with the delivery and customer.
- Formulate roadmaps with all prerequisites to achieve project completion.
- Participate in OP monthly team meetings and team‑building efforts.
- Contribute to OP technical discussions, peer reviews, etc.
- Contribute content and collaborate via the OP‑Wiki/Knowledge Base.
- Provide status reports to OP Account Management as requested.
