The City of Plano is looking for a Senior Community Outreach Specialist to help us strengthen relationships between the city and those we serve. Join our award-winning Communications and Community Outreach team, where creativity, collaboration and adaptability drive our mission to inform, connect and engage. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role with room to innovate and lead outreach efforts that make a real difference in our diverse and vibrant community.
As a Senior Community Outreach Specialist, you’ll develop and lead outreach initiatives that ensure our residents feel seen, heard and included. You’ll work across departments to support citywide programs, events and services. You’ll also help shape how we share stories, gather input and build trust.

This role is a great opportunity for a communications professional or MPA with at least 3 years of experience in community engagement, public outreach or similar fields. We’re looking for someone who can work with empathy, communicate with clarity, and help make government more accessible and transparent. You will work closely with the department director and have responsibility for key external-facing initiatives.
The Communications and Community Outreach department serves the community through in-office work and in-person engagement. To support this level of service, this role will include occasional evening and weekend hours.
- Leading outreach efforts and representing the City at community events.
- Building relationships with civic, business and non-profit organizations.
- Developing engagement strategies that align with City goals and reflect best practices in Public outreach.
- Managing multiple outreach projects, campaigns and community events with attention to detail and impact.
- Using digital tools, including social media and online engagement platforms, to connect with our community.
