Job Summary and Qualifications
  • The Nurse Manager of Surgical Services accepts responsibility for all department functions in support of the mission, vision, values and facility goals.
  • This RN is responsible for critical thinking decisions within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act.
  • They are accountable for patient safety of the surgical services in a clinical practice environment.
  • They integrate management of information and effective communication skills in daily practice.
  • They build on the ANA Standards of Care and Standards of Professional Practice.
  • They serve as liaison to foster a partnership with the patient and significant others.
  • They construct decisions to support the continuity of care and the coordination of care across care settings.
  • They recognize the role of the Nurse Manager of Surgical Services to maintain high quality, age‑specific care for the adolescent through the adult patient.
  • They create surgery department‑specific initiatives and process improvement.
  • They integrate collaborative practice and working relationships with all members of the healthcare team.
  • They accept responsibility for management of multiple levels of personnel (including supervisory positions), payroll, budget, capital, business plan, and physician relationships.
  • They serve as liaison for hospital, community and other institutions.
  • They organize and supervise human and material resources.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Advanced degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification
  • Current RN license for the State of Texas or compact license required.
  • Current AHA or ARC BLS provider.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years management experience including personnel, payroll, budgets, capital, business planning, marketing, supervisory positions, and physician relations (preferred).
