• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room, obtain weight and vital signs, and record the electronic medical record. Collect thorough patient histories and document the patient visit in the EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia under supervision from credentialed veterinary staff.
• Perform patient restraint, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications, and help maintain the electronic medical record.
• Schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results to doctors and clients, and maintain/update client/patient records.
• Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures and assist in anesthesia under supervision, monitor vital parameters, and prepare patients for discharge or transfer to overnight care.
• Under supervision, perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients including giving injectable and oral medications, IV fluids, keeping patients clean, and assisting with canine mobility as needed.
• Assist in training of new staff and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital environment neat and clean and perform regular cleaning according to a maintenance schedule.

• Perform additional duties as assigned
• Provide backup phone and front desk support as needed

• Preferred to have at least 1 year of experience in veterinary practice or equivalent animal care experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Compassionate, professional demeanor under emotional and stressful situations
• Telephone and computer skills
• Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer ideas, and adapt to change

The majority of duties are conducted in the Veterinary Hospital. The role requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Direct client and pet interaction is a key part of the role.
