Service Technician role at Freedom Forever

Freedom Forever is hiring a Service Technician. If you have experience in residential solar installs and want a role where you can grow, apply with us. This position involves service calls, diagnostic work, troubleshooting solar PV systems, and maintenance for installed residential systems.

Location:

Plano, TX (remote not available). Travel may be required for extended periods; must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance when traveling.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on photovoltaic (PV) inverters, string boxes, solar panels, and related components.
  • Assist in commissioning of solar arrays and monitoring systems during installation when needed.
  • Ensure PV systems are set up correctly and wired according to standards.
  • Perform roof work as needed (re-covers, roof repairs, drywall repairs).
  • Install hardware, PV modules, inverters, and monitoring equipment; perform inverter commissioning and panel inspection.
  • Mount racking, modules, and electrical equipment; perform electrical wiring (AC/DC).
  • Respond to corrective maintenance cases, including troubleshooting, testing, and repairs.
  • Prepare reports to comply with deliverables in O&M contracts when required.
  • Attend mandatory training on new products, installation methods, maintenance, and safety.
  • Adhere to quality management, environmental, health and safety standards and company policies.
  • Identify safety gaps and risks and communicate recommendations to higher-level staff and management.
  • Repair various roof types and ground mounts; add or remove panels as needed; identify and isolate roof leaks.
  • Understand electrical panels (including sub-panels) and monitoring equipment; read plans and understand AHJ guidelines for the region.
  • Troubleshoot inverters reporting production loss; work with PV equipment such as Enphase, Solar Edge, Sun Power.
  • Complete RMA processes and log project documentation; understand battery backup systems (e.g., Enphase, LG).
  • Travel as required; perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications Education & Certifications
  • High school diploma or GED
Experience
  • Minimum 1+ year solar experience
  • Electrical and roof racking experience
  • Experience installing grid-tied inverters and working with various ground and roof-mount racking systems
  • Experience in PV component performance and HALT testing
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience (power outages, shorts, faults)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Familiarity with electrical plans and field layouts; ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics, manuals, procedures, and regulations
  • Understanding of NEC codes related to PV installations
  • Productivity, detail orientation, and safety focus
  • Ability to work safely at heights on ladders and in confined areas
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull materials; climb ladders and stairs; work on rooftops; stand for long periods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; strong customer service
  • Team-focused, reliable, and capable of working in extreme environments (hot sun, cold, rain, crawl spaces)
  • Proficiency with power and hand tools; maintain a clean and safe workspace
  • Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record
Physical Demands
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently; sometimes 50+ pounds
  • Exposure to heights and varied weather conditions
Travel

Employee may travel for business purposes. If required, must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and the ability to drive a personal vehicle to different sites.
