Job Description

The position may be filled as either Park Equipment Operator or Senior Park Equipment Operator depending on qualifications. The range for the Equipment Operator is $19.75 - $23.70 per hour; and for the Senior Equipment Operator is $21.77 – $26.13 per hour.

Responsibilities – Park Equipment Operator

  • Operate light and/or heavy equipment required in the upkeep and operation of assigned areas.
  • Mow and maintain turf and landscaping; prune and trim trees and shrubs; maintain landscape beds; remove litter, brush and debris.
  • Inspect and maintain assigned tools and equipment.
  • Perform various construction, routine maintenance and labor tasks.
  • May lead or assist with landscape installation projects, including seeding or sod installation, tree planting and various landscape renovations.
  • Ensure safe working conditions; select appropriate working routines.
  • May lead the work activities of others. Regular and consistent attendance is essential.

  • Operate specialized and/or heavy equipment for installation, repair and maintenance of facilities in the assigned area.
  • Inspect and maintain tools and equipment; perform construction, routine maintenance and labor tasks.
  • Mow and maintain turf and landscaping; prune and trim trees and shrubs; maintain landscape beds; remove litter, brush and debris.
  • Lead landscape installation projects (e.g., seeding, sod installation, tree planting, renovations) and may supervise others.
  • Maintain daily work orders and enter information into the work management system.
  • Ensure safety in the work area and determine the most appropriate working routine; regular and consistent attendance is essential.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge
    :
    Operation and maintenance of equipment; routine construction, repair and maintenance methods; basic safety standards; landscaping maintenance.
  • Skill
    :
    Clear verbal and written communication; operating light/heavy equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair of assigned operations.
  • Education
    :
    High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience
    :
    One (1) year of previous landscaping or construction experience involving operation of light/heavy equipment in the assigned area; acceptable substitutes for education/experience exist.
  • Licenses/Certifications
    :
    Texas Class “A” CDL preferred.

Conditions of Employment
:
Must pass drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access to Police buildings) and social security number verification.

Senior Park Equipment Operator – Additional Details

  • Under general supervision, operates specialized and/or heavy equipment in installation, repair and maintenance of facilities.
  • Plans detailed methods to attain objectives within policy; works with initiative and resourcefulness; may work under indirect supervision.
  • Maintains safety and quality standards; leads projects and may supervise others; maintains daily work orders.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is essential.

Senior Qualifications

  • Knowledge
    :
    Operation and maintenance of equipment; advanced safety standards; landscaping maintenance in assigned area.
  • Skill
    :
    Clear communication; operating specialized/heavy equipment for construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Education
    :
    High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience
    :
    Two (2) years of landscaping or construction experience involving operation of specialized/heavy equipment in the assigned area. Substitutions allowed.
  • Licenses
    :
    Texas Class “A” or “B” CDL required at time of employment; if hired with Class “B,” must obtain Class “A” within 12 months.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
:
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and machinery; frequent walking in operational areas; lifting up to 75 pounds with or without assistance; exposure to noise, temperature extremes, dust, hazards, and fumes. Includes fieldwork as part of daily tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be provided where required.
