Public Works Maintenance Worker I: $18.81 per hour;
Public Works Maintenance Worker II: $19.75 per hour;
Public Works Maintenance Worker III: $20.74 per hour.

ResponsibilitiesPublic Works Maintenance Worker I
- Repairs and maintains City infrastructure in relation to streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs and storm drains and miscellaneous repairs as required.
- Operates various equipment including vibratory compactor, mud jack machine, crack sealer, jackhammer, mortar mixer, weed-eaters, chainsaws, grinder, shovel, and related tools.
- Assists in debris removal from rights-of-way and drainage ways.
- Performs temporary street repairs such as pothole repair.
- Assists with setting up forms for curb pours, sidewalks and street repairs.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule.
Public Works Maintenance Worker II
- All functions of Public Works Maintenance Worker I.
- Operates additional equipment including tandem dump truck, roller, forklift, centrifugal trash pumps, and related tools.
- Drives dump trucks for assignments as required.
- Proficient in setup of forms for curb pours, sidewalks and street repairs with minimal supervision.
- Monitors equipment operation to prevent damage to utilities during digging.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
Public Works Maintenance Worker III
- All functions of Public Works Maintenance Worker II.
- Pours and finishes concrete curbs, gutters, sidewalks and streets.
- Inspects work in progress and upon completion for compliance with policies, procedures, plans, specifications, and safety standards.
- Responds to emergency calls from the public and other agencies; places traffic barricades, signage and cones as needed.
- Performs routine inspections to identify repairs or hazards.
- Trains other Maintenance Workers on field work and safety.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
Knowledge: Safety practices, proper use of hand and power tools, tool and equipment maintenance, traffic control and barricade placement.
Skill: Clear verbal and written communication; operating light equipment; basic construction/repair work; basic math calculations and measurements.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Experience: One (1) year of maintenance or construction experience preferred (II: one year; III: three years preferred; II may require one year; III requires more experience).
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Class C driver's license upon employment; for II/III, may require additional certifications per role.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification.
Public Works Maintenance Worker IISummary of Duties: Under regular supervision, performs light to heavy manual labor to repair and maintain City infrastructure including water lines, sewer lines, streets, sidewalks, and alleys with the City’s easements and Rights of Way.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Mid-level classification; follows routine procedures and guidelines; works under close supervision. II is distinguished from III by more complex duties and higher skill level.

- Operates additional equipment; drive dump truck for assignments as required; setup forms with minimal supervision.
- Monitor equipment operator to prevent damage to utilities while digging.

Minimum Qualifications: Same knowledge and skills;
Experience:
One (1) year preferred;
Two (2) years preferred;
Education:
High school diploma or GED preferred;
Licenses:
Texas Class A CDL may be required for some duties;
Work Zone Safety Certification desirable.
Summary of Duties: Under minimal supervision, performs light to heavy manual labor to repair and maintain City infrastructure including water lines, sewer lines, streets, sidewalks and alleys within easements and Rights of Way.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Advanced classification; plans methods to attain objectives; works under indirect supervision with guidance from supervisor on unusual matters.
