Street Maintenance Worker

To perform work necessary for the maintenance and repair of city streets, parking lots, drainage facilities and right-of-ways.

This position receives general supervision from the Street Department Crew leader. This position does not supervise any other positions.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Assists in maintenance and repair operations including, but not limited to, pot hole repair, utility cut repair, crack sealing, overlays, reconstruction, drainage facility cleaning, barricade construction, de-icing, street sweeping and vegetation control.
• Operates equipment used in maintenance and repair of city streets and right-of-ways
• Makes oral reports regarding daily progress
• Maintains building and grounds housing the street department
• Performs minor welding activities when required
• Mow, weed eat and clean right-of-way and drainage areas
• Install and replace street signs
• Assists in other department activities as needed
• Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed
• Work weekends, holidays and special events as needed
• Other duties as assigned

High School diploma or GED; some construction-related experience is preferred; knowledge of backhoe, crack sealer, dump truck, front-end loader, jackhammer and various hand tools.

Valid Class C Texas driver license; CDL preferred

• Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer terminal and city vehicle
• Walk, stand, or sit, for prolonged periods of time
• Regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry up 10 pounds
• Frequently lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds
• Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds or more
• Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
• Operate office equipment including use of a computer keyboard
• Speak and hear to exchange information in English
• Operate a vehicle to travel to various locations
