* Position Summary:
** University Counseling Services at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invite applications for a
** Counselor**. A counselor provides professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus community, incorporates a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional and behavioral needs of students, creates developmental programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping behaviors across campus, and provides strategic direction and advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives. Position involves assessment/screening of needs, consultation, outreach, crisis management and professional counseling services (individual, couples and group).This
is a full time position working 10 months out of the year with a break during the summer months. This position involves work expectations outside of normal office hours (night hours, weekend commitments, travel out-of-town, etc.).##
** Key
Job Responsibilities:
*** Counseling
* * Provide individual, group, or couples counseling to students struggling with developmental and/or personal health issues by adhering to a brief psychotherapy model that is time sensitive and goal oriented.
* Refer students to appropriate community resources.
* Administer and interpret inventories and tests given to students in conjunction with individual or group counseling.
* Provide crisis intervention with students and support for other involved persons.
* Consult with the director and other UCS staff regularly regarding case management issues.
* Provide counseling and/or information and referral services to faculty and staff.
* Make appropriate referrals.
* Programming
* * Develop, plan and facilitate outreach and success programming to educate and increase awareness of the mental health needs of college-age students to promote a healthy campus.
* Facilitate psycho-educational and process-oriented groups.
* When appropriate, consult and work with other University staff or campus units in the development and presentation of programs
* Administration
* * Adhere to administrative policies and procedures of UCS specifically and the University as a whole.
* Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records.
* Provide liaison support to the individual colleges (Dean and faculty).
* Develop, plan and provide in-service training and programs for other University departments as requested or otherwise appropriate.
* Embrace and support diversity as part of the educational process.
* Assist in UCS publicity and public relations efforts as outlined or requested by the director.
* Develop and assist in the distribution of reference materials for students in line with their perceived personal, educational, and vocational needs.
* Assist in the supervision of student employees as specified by the director.
* When appropriate, serve as a resource or consultant to individuals or groups.
* Consult with community counseling or psychiatric personnel/agencies as needed.
* Serves on multidisciplinary campus committees
* Other duties as assigned.##
** What You’ll Need to Succeed:
**
* Required:
** Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field
* Professional licensure in counseling or social work, or be eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor or Social Worker in Wisconsin within 6 months.
* Experience providing mental health counseling.
* Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
* Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel, or organizational matters.
* Ability to work a varied schedule with flexible hours including some weekend and evenings.
* Must have a valid driver’s license.
* Preferred:
** Minimum of 5 years mental health counseling experience is desired.
