Laboratory Manager – University of Wisconsin–Platteville
The University of Wisconsin – Platteville is seeking a Laboratory Manager to oversee technical activities, operations, and policy development within the chemistry laboratories. The role coordinates laboratory course experiments, maintains quality control, ensures regulatory compliance, manages hazardous waste, supervises student workers, and assists with budget management.
This full‑time, 12‑month position offers a starting salary of $53,900 per year, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package including a top‑ranked retirement plan.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and facilitate trainings regarding scientific experimentation, technical procedures, and equipment operations to various audiences.
- Identify, propose, and implement new or revised unit operational policies and procedures in alignment with strategic initiatives and objectives.
- Monitor program budgets and expenditures.
- Serve as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups, providing information, making recommendations to leadership, and representing the unit’s interests.
- Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and approving hours worked for at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees.
- Direct and supervise day‑to‑day laboratory operations, quality control programs, and staff to ensure compliance with organization and regulatory agency standards.
- Manage scheduling and logistics to ensure timely and efficient setup and takedown of experiments for laboratory courses.
- Proactively plan and anticipate laboratory course needs, taking initiative to support smooth operations.
- Assist faculty and staff by independently preparing laboratory materials and demonstrations, including those for outreach events.
- Handle purchasing and related activities.
