The Head Swim Team Coach serves at the pleasure of the Assistant Aquatics Manager and the Aquatics Manager. This position is responsible for the coaching of youth participating in our summer swim team program and overseeing the entire swim team, including coaches. The position is also responsible for the safety of members on the team. Head Swim Team Coach enforces policies and rules pertaining to water safety and is a role model for rule‑obeying patrons when not on duty.
Weekly hours are part‑time, seasonal (mid‑April to mid‑August), not to exceed 29 hours per week, with possible variation based on department needs and programming.
- Oversee water activities, enforcing rules and policies as needed to ensure patron safety.
- Instruct youth participants according to the swim team program as taught at Pleasant Grove Veterans Memorial Pool.
- Oversee Swim Team Coaches.
- Interact and communicate with parents regarding swim team questions.
- Work in tandem with volunteers of the swim team to ensure a quality program.
- Assist in preparation for special activities and events.
- Assist in rescue procedures as directed and fulfil the role in the Emergency Action Plan.
- Assist in basic clean‑up and overall facility appearance as needed.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must have graduated from high school.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a stressful aquatic environment; some medium lifting involved.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Moderate physical activity; requires standing and/or walking for more than 4 hours per day.
- Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring following basic safety precautions and procedures.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Good public relations and customer service skills under sometimes stressful situations.
- Ability to understand written and spoken instructions.
- Ability to lift 15 to 50 pounds.
- Prior coaching experience is a plus but not required.
- Swimming experience, preferably in a swim team environment.
This position requires instruction and supervision of all assigned participants. It may require working in adverse weather, lifting and carrying equipment, and odd or long hours to complete special requests or projects, including evening and off‑hour activities. Hours may include weekends and some holidays and can vary with season and activities. The role may involve participation in or leadership of strenuous physical activities.
