Mechanical Drafter - Instrumentation (Contract)

Yoh is looking for an experienced Mechanical Drafter to join our client in support of precision mechanical designs for advanced R&D instrumentation in the biotech space. This contractor will play a key role in creating fully documented, manufacturable drawing packages to support engineering, fabrication, and prototype builds.

Compensation: $38-48/hour DOE
Type: 3-4 Month Contract

• Generate high-quality 2D production drawings from 3D Solid Works models for complex life science instrumentation.
• Update CAD models and execute redline changes based on R&D testing and engineering feedback.
• Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure manufacturability and precision.
• Manage files and revisions using EPDM/Solid Works PDM in accordance with configuration control practices.
• Provide documentation and technical details to support prototype fabrication (machining, injection molding, casting, sheet metal).
• Assist with Bill of Materials (BOM) creation and maintenance for assemblies and fixtures.
• Work closely with Mechanical Design Engineers to ensure drafted documentation aligns with system-level mechanical, optical, and electrical interfaces.

• 7+ years of experience as a Mechanical Drafter or Designer, ideally with instrumentation, medical devices, or robotics.
• Expert-level Solid Works proficiency
  , including detailed drawings, assemblies, and drafting best practices.
• Hands-on experience with EPDM/Solid Works PDM for file management and revision control.
• Strong GD&T skills with the ability to apply ASME Y14.5 standards and perform stack-up analysis.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing methods: machining, injection molding, sheet metal, and rapid prototyping.
• Experience working within ISO 9001 or similar quality systems; familiarity with PLM (e.g., Arena) is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver clean, accurate documentation for complex electromechanical systems.

Estimated Min Rate: $31.50

Estimated Max Rate: $45.00
