Summary:

The Senior Tax Associate is the cornerstone of our client engagement teams. While ensuring client satisfaction and appropriate execution of engagement plans, they are the coach and advisor to team members and the conduit through which most communication must travel. This role works to ensure that information is transferred efficiently and appropriately. The Senior Associate will develop and demonstrate deep knowledge of the technical issues and their application in their chosen discipline(s).

They also help manage engagement economics, bringing potential change orders to the attention of clients, managers, and partners. The Senior Associate is expected to complete all parts of the CPA exam pursuant to earning their professional credentials as a certified public accountant or an enrolled agent. They also help manage the expectations of the Managers, Partners, and clients of the timing of engagement projects and coordinate with team members to adjust for any schedule changes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review complex individual (Form 1040) and business real estate returns including partnerships (Form 1065), S corporations (Form 1120-S), and C corporations (Form 1120), including Schedule E, multi-state filings, and entity-level reporting.
  • Apply key real estate tax rules, including passive activity limitations, depreciation methods (MACRS, bonus), capital gains/losses,
    * 121 exclusions, and
    * 199A (QBI) deductions.
  • Analyze partnership allocations, basis calculations, capital account maintenance, and debt-financed distributions for real estate entities.
  • Evaluate and report real estate sales transactions, including gain/loss recognition and compliance with
    * 1031 like-kind exchange rules.
  • Identify and implement basic tax-saving strategies such as accelerated depreciation, timing of transactions, and maximizing deductible expenses.
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and documentation while providing clients with practical guidance on real estate tax implications.
  • Maintain frequent communication with clients to foster long-term relationships and provide exceptional service
  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by team members to deliver high-quality service to clients.
  • Ensure adherence to firm procedures, legal requirements, and client specifications.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff to enhance their professional growth and skills.
  • Identify and capitalize on cross-selling opportunities to enhance client relationships and expand service offerings.
  • Actively participate in internal project teams to support firm-wide initiatives and objectives.
  • Proactively identify learning gaps and regularly review development plans with management.
  • Attend ongoing training and development programs organized by the firm to enhance skills and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Hold and maintain relevant licenses and memberships to uphold professional standards and legal requirements.
  • Stay informed about financial trends and legislation, continuously improving skills, and meeting minimum CPE requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Accounting or related field required
