Backend / Full Stack Developer

Russell Tobin is partnering with a leading global retail organization to identify an experienced Backend / Full Stack Developer for a long‑term onsite contract in Pleasanton, CA. This role is ideal for a highly skilled engineer who thrives in modern Java‑based, cloud‑native environments and enjoys building scalable, high‑performance systems.

Retail industry experience is a plus, but not required; strong technical expertise is the priority.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs
• Build and support microservices‑based architectures
• Collaborate with frontend teams to deliver full stack solutions
• Work with Kafka‑based event‑driven systems
• Support CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops best practices
• Ensure applications align with 12‑factor app principles
• Contribute to system reliability through monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and SDLC best practices

• Java, Spring Boot, and Quarkus (Required)
• Apache Kafka, Java, Spring
• Docker & Kubernetes
• Strong JVM‑based development, OOP, and exception handling
• Web technologies experience
• Git, Git Hub, and Git Hub Actions for version control & CI/CD
• Postgre
  
  SQL database experience
• REST API development
• Strong understanding of 12‑factor application principles
• Full Stack capability (Backend‑first with front‑end proficiency)

• Frontend technologies: HTML, CSS, Java Script
• Dev Ops tools:
  Chef, Jenkins, Puppet, ArgoCD
• Cloud platforms:
  Azure and/or OCI
• Databases:
  Mongo
  
  DB and PostgreSQL
• Monitoring & alerting:
  Nagios, New Relic, Google Cloud Platform, Splunk
• Messaging systems:
  RabbitMQ
• API management & Microservices architecture
• E‑commerce and retail platforms (nice to have):
  Shopify, SFCC, Stibo, SFSC
• Salesforce (as needed): SFDC, Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC)

• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, and JVM‑based development
• Strong experience with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
• Understanding of Security Compliance
• Hands‑on experience in Agile/Scrum environments
• Exposure to retail or high‑scale consumer platforms is a bonus

• Work onsite with a highly visible enterprise retail platform
