Summary

The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ-centered environment. The Teacher reports to the principal for carrying out school and Archdiocese policies related to the classroom and interactions with students and parents.

Position Responsibilities
  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling Catholic teachings.
  • Adheres to school and Archdiocese policies, including Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols and ensures safety and well-being.
  • Protects confidentiality of information obtained in service with the organization.
  • Adheres to the Code of Conduct and Faith and Moral Policy.
  • Approaches interactions with a solution-oriented mindset and teamwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that meet curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating different learning styles.
  • Present subject matter per Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and equipment reflecting student needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instruction.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals and methods per DCS requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
  • Use technology to strengthen teaching and learning.
Student Growth and Development
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the principal.
  • Be a positive role model and support the mission of Catholic education.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate for physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Manage student behavior per Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of instructional materials as required.
Communication
  • Maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with Department of Catholic School regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports and records.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree.

License and Credentials:

  • 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid state certificate as outlined in Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.
  • Technology proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations.
  • Demonstrated competency in the subject assigned area(s).
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.

Minimum Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Knowledge of subject assigned and general curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, capable of working independently and on a team.
  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • May be required to work some weekends and nights.
  • Required to work a minimum of a full school day.
  • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
